Hi, nice to meet you! I'm Nina.
I was born and raised in northern California on a cul-de-sac, where my friends and I re-enacted animation series using whatever we could scrounge up from our garages. Pretending we had superpowers, we stood tall on our driveways wearing our bike helmets adorned with cut-out cardboard pieces, acting out our parts. That love of a good story, whether in animation or later, in video games, drew me to illustration. I am intrigued by the alternative realities made possible by visual art while conveying a thoughtful story.
My work helps me stay connected with my inner child, even as life gets more complicated. I am interested in creating work at the intersection of that child-like simplicity and adulthood's complexity. In that, my work is a form of escapism.
